From these barracks, Finnish soldiers once marched to the Mikkeli railway station, from where, the trains took them to the front lines to defend an independent Finland.

Founded in 1982, the Infantry Museum stands in the heart of Mikkeli’s beautifully preserved wooden barracks area. This unique setting offers the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable journey into the history and heritage of Finland’s infantry.
During the autumn season 1.9-16.12.2025, museum will be open wed-sun 11-16
The ticket office will be closed an hour before closing time.
Museum will be closed for 8.11.-9.11.2025.
The museum is housed in two wooden barracks built in the 1880’s.
The exhibitions are divided into a main exhibition and special exhibitions. The museum also has wheelchair lifts (weight limit 225kg) that provide access to both buildings. There is also a museum shop within the museum.

Museum is operated by Infantry Museum's Foundation.
The purpose of the Infantry Museum Foundation is to promote the preservation of the historical traditions of the Finnish infantry, to cherish the traditions of the infantry, and to promote the maintenance and development of the will to defend the country.
The Foundation achieves its purpose by maintaining the Infantry Museum and by collecting, researching, recording, and presenting artifacts and other museum materials related to the history and traditions of the infantry.
